We all work hard at life. To make things easier. To improve the quality of our days. So of course, we love to use tech.
What a surprise that our home-office dogs like it as much as we do. We thought that was only a cat thing?
You know, when they sit on your keyboard, because it’s warm, because they love you, because they want food. We know cat ways.
We have one. A large one. So our entire office has to remember to shut their laptops when not using it! But this is about dogs and devices.
Our mixed-breed, Holly, tends to sidle over whenever someone hits the on button on a laptop. Lays head in lap. Whines a wee little. Puppy eyes.
Her ears perk up when the phone rings. Then a bark. Just a greeting bark, two short, sharp “wa-wahs”. But the person on the other end hears. Every time.
What to do? We’ll tell you what we did. We asked someone about it. Someone experienced. Someone we trust. Someone who can tell one signal from another.
We asked…our head of marketing. She’s got like 9 doggos at home and works from her living room.
“Oh, my,” she smiled into her handset, “I feel you. Pet parenthood can be a challenge, but you need to know now that your pooches aren’t into devices, they’re into YOU!
They know your attention gets diverted by your phone and your laptop, for minutes, maybe hours, which is a lifetime for them, and they try to divert it back immediately.
They miss you.”

So we learnt to scratch a hairy fairy under the chin when we hit the on button on the laptop.
And to put our smartphone on silent for calls, and chuck the multicoloured mutt of mixed heritage a food puzzle before we pick it up to answer it.
And? We are all getting on better, most of all me with my devices, ha ha. Now. How to stop ANY of the pooches from licking the screen when they see a pizza on it?
Take care out there.
